Through the Lens of Nature

Stephen Wurju takes a close up shot of some bushes.

Over the weekend, I went on a date with Mother Nature. I didn’t need money or fancy clothes, just my camera and my presence. Capturing moments outside felt incredibly soothing. I loved the background ambiance of bikers passing by birds chirping, and the calmness carried by the air.

The first picture is of a regular street. I took it because I like the urban feeling it has–no pun intended. The arrow on the ground makes the picture look like it’s telling you where to go next.

This next picture shows a straight, paved path going directly towards a tunnel in the distance. I like how the path is so direct, but the tunnel at the end adds a sense of mystery. The trees on both sides and the grey sky also make the scene feel a bit mysterious.

This photo shows a steep, rocky slope, with the light-colored rocks stacked in a pattern that looks like dominoes tumbling downwards. The bright red blanket or tarp caught in the middle really makes the picture stand out, and the color combination even reminds me a little of the Japanese flag.

Earlier, I mentioned seeing some bikers out and about. This picture shows a sign specifically warning that bikers might be ahead, a clear indication of what to expect on the road.

This close-up shot brings us into the vibrant world of nature, focusing on the intricate details of a leafy bush. The mix of fresh greens and the delicate reddish-brown branches create a sense of growth and vitality. It’s a reminder of the small wonders that often go unnoticed around us.

I took several photos of a flowerbed, though I’m not entirely sure what the flowers are called. What caught my eye was the beautiful blend of white and green, it felt fresh and calming, like a quiet breath of nature. Strangely, there weren’t any insects around the flowers, which gave the scene a slightly empty feeling. A butterfly or bee might have added a touch of warmth and made the image feel even more alive and complete.

In my final image, I captured a photo of another bush. The way the leaves branch out in every direction creates a dynamic and visually engaging composition. The varying shades of green add depth and vibrancy to the scene, giving it a naturally captivating vibe. Upon closer observation, some leaves have a smooth, glossy texture, while others appear more jagged and spiky highlighting the bush’s rich diversity in form and surface.
