Do you want to move your educational journey from inside classrooms and into the real world?
DMACC currently offers three different study abroad options. London, Belize, and Italy are all opportunities for DMACC students to explore outside of Iowa.
The London program is a full semester condensed into 10 weeks. Eight of those weeks students are in London, spending most of their class time on field trips while learning from a mix of British and DMACC professors. The program fees include day trips, theatre performances, and homestay lodging.

When done with their assignments and not traveling to out-of-town destinations, students have the city of London’s restaurants, parks, museums, and historical architecture to explore. Friday is off limits for classes. “You can do what you want to do over the weekends,” said Aimee Langager, Study Abroad Coordinator.
DMACC also offers a 10-day trip to Belize every May. Professor Jennifer Wojcik, one of the faculty leaders for the Global Studies course, shared two things about the Belize trip that is not advertised. She said, “[There is] an open air market in Belmopan with the potential to haggle for a better price but also to experience local produce and foods. We explore both [waterfalls and caves] at several locations and its always high on the list of places students love.”

CIMBA is a new offering for DMACC students. In contrast to our faculty-led program in London and Belize, this partnership with the University of Iowa is more of a traditional study abroad experience in Italy. While learning about leadership, students experience historical areas, art museum trips and plays, Italian food, and beautiful scenery. There are more than 25 independent travel days available for students who want to explore more of Europe’s many cultures and historical sites.

Fall and spring semester trips are 12 weeks while summer semester is four weeks. The curriculum is best for students interested in a business pathway as classes such as Managerial Accounting, Business Law I, and Principles of Marketing are offered. Summer semester includes courses that appeal to a more generalized student population.
Brianna Wills, Partnerships Manager for CIMBA at University of Iowa, said, “This program could be a bridge for students to go on a study abroad trip between their final year at DMACC and before they transfer to a four-year university.”

CIMBA also has options for groups of students to be paired together for their study abroad trip. Wills said, “CIMBA is a tight knit group.” She will be on various DMACC campuses next fall to bring more information about CIMBA.
Information sessions are held every semester. For details, visit studyabroad.dmacc.edu or email studyabroad@dmacc.edu.
